Hunger Games Trailer Debuts

Lionsgate has released the first full-length trailer for The Hunger Games, director Gary Ross’ eagerly awaited adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins’ wildly popular sci-fi series.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Opening March 23, The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, Willow Shields and Lenny Kravitz.

I admit, I wouldn’t be interested if not for being a teacher and currently reading the trilogy with sixth graders.  But, I might just be there opening weekend.  I was afraid of a cheesy, angsty, teen movie, but this looks very promising and pretty true (from what we’ve seen so far) to the books.  I love the parts where Katniss volunteers at the reaping, then the run to the cornucopia at the end.

So looking forward to this! me and a group of mates are all going dressed up on the 23rd, it already in my calender!! i’m just worried it’s gonna go all twilight-esque and turn into a massive fandom of people that have never read the books, just seen the film, and the whole thing will become… cheapened. i’m upset about the hovercraft, that doesn’t fit with the original storyline, but everything else seems to fit.

The libraries here never have a book I want when I’m actually ready to read. But will read the books one day hopefully before I see the movies. The trailer looks great though.

Sophie Iz Fab, the hovercraft does fit, if it’s the scene I think it is–only in the book it’s a separate, earlier event that Katniss flashes back to. We’ll see how it fits in in the movie.

    Honestly this looks COMPLETELY UNORIGINAL.

Ive read this plot in countless comics & seen this in countless TV shows and movies.

Never heard of Hunger Games, but it does look like a sanitised version of the manga series and film Battle Royale. That film had a cult following in the UK.

Its actually a pretty decent book series if you completely ignore the typical romance garbage every “young adult” book adds these days.
