Smallville’s Erica Durance to Play Wonder Woman on Harry’s Law

Erica Durance, in an episode of "Smallville"

Fans who lobbied for Smallville actress Erica Durance to play Wonder Woman will finally get their wish. Well, sort of.

According to TVLine, she will guest star in an episode of NBC’s legal dramedy Harry’s Law as “a psychologically infirm woman who retreats into the persona of the DC Comics heroine to help wreak revenge on perpetrators of domestic abuse.”

The series, which stars Kathy Bates as criminal-defense attorney Harriet “Harry” Korn, is co-produced by Warner Bros. Television, making any rights issues an easy hurdle. The episode will also give Harry’s Law creator David E. Kelley another shot at the Amazing Amazon after NBC passed on his Wonder Woman pilot in May.

Given that harmonic convergence, TVLine suggests we could even see Durance wearing an honest-to-goodness Wonder Woman costume, rather than, say, the familiar yet generically named “Amazon princess” outfit she donned last year in an episode of Smallville (pictured). We hear Adrianne Palicki’s is available.

Durance, best known for playing Lois Lane for seven seasons on Smallville, was recently cast as the female lead in the Canadian medical drama Saving Hope. She’ll appear in the 11th episode of Harry’s Law, which doesn’t have a firm air date.

Erica Durance was what got me back into watching Smallville after being driven away by the craptastic acting of Kristen Kreuk…

Erica Durance single handedly redeemed the truly terrible character of Lois Lane.  She can do anything!!

Actually I’m not so thrilled about David E Kelley having another chance to put his insidious spin on Wonder Woman.  The failed NBC pilot was deplorably written, poorly conceived, and amateurishly filmed, and amply demonstrated that Kelley has no understanding of this character at all.  It would be nice to see Durance in the role, but I’d rather see  an interpretation of WW that is not controlled by Kelley’s poisonous imagination.

I guess this is the only way we’ll see WW on screen…  :-/

I hadn’t cared much for Lois Lane since the mid-Eighties, but Erica Durance and Smallville made me like her again.

  • Jaymorama

    Hmmm…yes, she looks…good!

You do realise that this isn’t his take on Wonder Woman, but rather his take on a woman with psychological problems?

I like Harry’s Law but it has one big problem.  Every time I watch it I can’t quite ignore the elephant in the room.  They should have just done more seasons of Boston Legal instead of doing this show.  That’s my only complaint about Harry’s Law, though.  If I can’t have more Boston Legal, this show is about as good of a substitute as I could wish for.

This Erica Durance episode sounds fun.  They should consider making her a permanent character.  Crazy Wonder Woman as a lawer sounds just stupid enough to work.

Gee, more DC lite fare. Is he going to be producing the new She-Ra seris too? Moron.

So basically there will be maybe a 3 minute scene OR about 5 minutes scattered throughout a BORING hour of television…… and the scene wone even be serious. Just a woman in MAYBE a semi authentic WONDEROWMAN out fit.

Better to YOUTUBE any cosplayer at a con to see a better costume

What are you on about?! Lois Lane is the best female character in the DC verse! But I do agree that Erica Durance was a fantastic Lois Lane, but that’s all down to her. The writing on Smallville just plain sucked! Imagine Allison Mack, Kristin Kreuk or Cassidy Freeman saying those banal lines and and you get an idea of just how lousy the scripts really were! (Great, now I have to scrub my imagination with lye soap! Lol)

I watched Smallville mainly because of Erica Durance (although superhot Tom Welling was a bonus!). She was the only reason I bothered to watch the cheesetastic Charlie’s Angels episode she was in and she’ll be the sole reason I’ll bother to catch Harry’s Law. Rock on Erica!!!
