Is This Lizard Concept Art From The Amazing Spider-Man?

After months of virtual secrecy, the doors have flung open on Columbia Pictures’ reptile house. First, there was the PEZ dispenser featuring the head of The Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man, and now, courtesy of, there emerges what appears to be concept art for a fully transformed Curt Connors from director Marc Webb’s franchise reboot.

Superhero Hype notes The Lizard here is similar to how he appeared in a clip shown at Comic-Con International, although in the video “he was more massive” — suggesting perhaps that this is early concept art.

The Amazing Spider-Man, which opens July 3, stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse.

    I like it!

  • Michael

    Either that’s a killer or a croc.

  • smooooov

Looks a hell of a lot more formidable than Raimi’s goblin. Webb and company know what they’re doing.

  • RonN

Actually, it looks like an old Spidey newspaper villian, The Rattler!

  • Hromovlad

    hyup, it’s Killer Crock alright

  • Magnusjragnarok

Another villain without a nose?! Thanks, Lord Voldemort…

But seriously, I am not interested in the new Spider-Man at all. Why did the series need a reboot? Could they not have kept it going with a new actor playing Peter (a la the Bond series)? After all, the look of the character changes every time the comic book gets a new artist.

  • Captainparagon

oh I hope that’s not it the head looks like crap and I’d much prefer him in his lab coat and pants.

  • Hromovlad

to be fair, those movies were going down-hill since the first movie
there was no saving that puppy

  • Shawn

I like it mostly, I’m sure it’ll be much more updated tho in the movie.

  • Braunrodman

o god…that’d horrible…looks like Sony is still worrying about showing an actors face enough

  • imdmandingo

  • Ultraist Studios

Better than the Green Goblin… but that’s not saying much.

  • Lewis4510

Doesn’t even remotely look like The Lizard…

  • Hicpunk

Looks like a Goomba from the horrible Mario Bros. Movie.

  • WonderScott

  • Michael

    Gain a hand, lose a penis…

  • Michael

When I clicked on the image and saw the larger version, I can make out a guy inside a suit when I look into his eye. Is this a picture or an artist’s rendering?

  • Anonymous

Pass. I prefer the longer dinosaurish snout. And where is the lab coat, how will anyone know he’s a scientist who drank out of the wrong test tube?

  • Anonymous

Not terrible but to tell the truth not very good it looks like there trying to hard to make the transformed state look like the actor’s face I hate when they pull that. I also hope he has the ripped up clothes you can pull the naked monster thing off in in the comics and cartoons but that shit looks silly in real life. Its more belevable he would keep pants then loose his dick. when he transforms.

Well, I wasn’t expecting much after seeing Spidey’s costume or Peter Parker’s hair, so… yeah, not really disappointed because I was already there.

  • Leo Woodmansey

Yeah, bulk him up a little and lose the tail and there ya go… Killer Croc for Dark Knight 4.

Except… the Croc wears pants. As does the Lizard, along with his signature lab coat. What kind of world are we living in when characters known for their Silver Age Purple Pants have to run around bare-assed (Ang Lee’s Hulk, now the Lizard), while the sexy naked Martians from the “John Carter” books have to cover up for their movie debut? I call Shenanigans.

Oh, and I dig his flat human-style face. We’re asked to believe the serum can grow back an entire arm, plus a five-foot tail, scales, and fully-developed claws… but not an elongated reptilian snout. That’s great, that’s awesome. I love that.

    ‘Cause it wouldn’t be REALISTIC!

  • James T

This is so bland. They didn’t need to go the “Todd McFarlane’s Lizard” extreme but this is just a normal face with scales on it. Something you’d see on one of the first five seasons of Dr. Who. Sure, the body looks ok, but wow, what an unimpressive face.

  • J Painter88

…I’m going for croc. And I have NO intentions of seeing this film, although Sally Field as Aunt May is an excellent choice!

  • Magnusjragnarok

I’m not saying the new one will be any better or worse than the original 3, just, why go through all the BS of treading old ground by rebooting? Would there have been any problem picking up where #3 left off with a different cast? Does this mean we’ll have to see Venom, Doc Ock, Sandman, Spider-Man No More, etc. all over again?
