Peter Weller Boards Star Trek 2; Benicio del Toro Not Playing Khan

As we get closer to the scheduled January start date for Star Trek 2, the news and announcements will begin to flurry. However, this being a J.J. Abrams project, don’t expect to have all the details.

Last week, word got out that She’s Out of My League star Alive Eve will be in the sequel, although we still don’t know the role. Today, Variety reports that RoboCop himself, Peter Weller, has joined the ranks of people officially in the movie, but filling unknown roles.

Meanwhile, Benicio del Toro’s potential role remains a mystery. Abrams has said he definitely wants the actor in the film as the villain, but reports have been sketchy as to exactly who he’ll play. Latino Review says it’s definitely old-school Trek villain Khan, while HitFlix talked to Abrams himself, who said that’s definitely not the case.

We’ll put our money on Abrams who, as HitFlix explains, has played coy in the past, but never outright lied about one of his movies. Truth be told, this might be a case where we won’t know all the details until the flick comes out on May 17th, 2013.

Peter Weller’s a pretty underrated actor in my opinion. Good to see him getting work.

Wonder who he’ll play? A vulcan? Starfleet admiral? Another captain? Maybe he’ll be Captain Alex Muprhy of the USS TJ Lazer?

He’s an underrated actor and it’s good to see him
finally in a mainstream movie again but he was already a special guest star on
‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ in 2005. I would have liked to see a new actor to the
franchise unless Weller is playing a descendant of John Frederick Paxton which
would probably mean the villains are Terra Prime, the extremist xenophobic
    terrorist organisation.

    • The Orion Syndicate as
    the villains

    • Large all-star cast as
    well as many cameos

    • More planets

    • Larger space battles
    with more starships

    • Kirk having better
    fighting skills

    • Kirk having several
human love interests played by Hollywood’s most beautiful young actresses

    • The Star Trek theme
music from the Insurrection end credits used at the end

Since this is a reboot I think they can get away with a re-casting. Plus its not the first time this has happened. The guy who played Cochran in First Contact already had a role in an episode of Star Trek TNG.

Thought they already said no Khan in the sequel
