Lionsgate Plans Low-Budget
Remake of American Psycho

David Fincher protege Noble Jones will write and direct a new take on American Psycho for Lionsgate that will rely more on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 satirical novel than the 2000 movie thriller.

Variety reports the studio has yet to greenlight the project, which will be made on a small budget.

Controversial at the time of its release, Ellis’ novel was set in New York City of the booming 1980s, where narrator Patrick Bateman operates as an investment banker by day and a serial killer by night. The 2000 adaptation, which starred Christian Bale, has developed a significant cult following.

Jones, who served as Fincher’s second unit director on The Social Network, reportedly pitched Lionsgate on a reimagining that transplants Bateman to modern-day Manhattan.
