Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
David Mitchell’s 2004 novel Cloud Atlas was an ambitious book telling six different stories throughout time, hopping around from 1850 to a post-apocalyptic future. It’s the kind of book that would require some pretty big minds to adapt into film. Luckily for fans of Mitchell, Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix, V for Vendetta) signed on to direct along with Tom Tykwer (Run, Lola Run).
The trio worked on the script and began filming in September with a solid cast that includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent and Ben Whishaw. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming wrapped this week in Berlin, meaning it’s time for special effects insertion and editing to make it in time for the intended October release of the film.
