New Avengers Poster Emerges

The Avengers fever cannot be contained or reduced by the holiday season. While most other film franchises took the week off, we were treated to a Russian trailer that showed off new footage, and now a new poster of the team in action along the lines of a comic book cover.

Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig. The movie opens May 4.

Is this actually something being sent out by Marvel? It looks like a fan type image to me. Would they use such a generic background with strange stock pictures of jet planes? And reuse previously released character images? Even the placement of the logo looks like horrible Photoshop work. And why isn’t the date included? It just says ‘in cinemas soon’ which just sounds odd. Typically it would have said ‘in theaters May 4′ or ‘in theaters soon’ if for some reason they weren’t pushing the date.

This just seems so awful and amateur.

I wouldn’t even use that image for a comic book cover of the perennially terrible Brian Bendis Avengers comics

  • Michael Sacal

A giant white image. Not very imaginative…

  • Foolander

Is it just me or does the face of Captain America look like Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2) instead of Chris Evans?!? ;)

  • Foolander

P.S. That art looks like it should only be used for a pattern on kiddie birthday party placemats.

Needs more Hank Pym and Carol Danvers. Carol would be a better fit with this group than Black Widow also not a fan of the revamped Hawkeye.

Does anyone else feel like Captain America’s new costume looks more like a DC “New 52″ design?

  • shugtastic

isn’t that picture of thor the same image from the abysmal video game?

  • Eric

this poster is dying for an Ant Man and Wasp to be photoshopped as hidden easter eggs for those who will look “closely”

  • Slife

looks like something you would find on a cheesy backpack at walmart rofl

  • pDUB

i feel like thats exactly what theyre going to use this for. we should expect a ridiculous amount of merchandise as per usual/

  • Shealhaley

I don’t care how lame Hawkeye’s costume is, they should not have updated him. All the other characters look great! And then there’s Hawkeye…

  • D.Smithee

Meh. Get the cast together and do a rockin’ photo session–or, better yet, just have them standing next to each other looking all badass.

It seems fan made- the Thor image was used for his film and the Black Widow was previously used in the first poster, however her hair’s been made shorter. Also, the Hulk’s from a recent image of the Hulk

Not what I would expect for this movie…the layout isn’t very good…it looks like they have used stock illustrations that are being used for other marketing material and have comped them into a group shot. They spent 100 million plus dollars on this film (probably) they should spend more than 50 bucks on this…hire Drew Struzan (or me..I’m in their obvious budget range)…to do a proper illustrated movie poster.

  • LightningBug

Hawkeye is pointing his arrow directly at Iron Man’s back…

    p.s. this poster is awful…

  • Gyrorobbo

Has low budget written all over it.
Same art from before any filming was done.
I guess we can stop waiting for Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.
Whedon is gonna kill the whole Marvel movie thing.

  • Carlos Eml

Come on! Give us a REAL poster. Those are draws, i’ve seen other before. Release a MOVIE poster, Marvel.

  • Guest

Wow. Lousy use of negative space to Cap’s right. Makes it look like he’s got a HUGE wing coming out of the side of his head. I applaud Marvel for releasing illustrated promo images, but so far they have little to offer other than boring composition and weak rendering.

    Oh no…Watch out Iron Man!
