Russo Brothers: "Avengers: Infinity War 1 & 2" to be Retitled
Making the press rounds to promote his new movie Contraband, the Oscar nominee was asked by MTV News whether he’d seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the recent prequel to the 1968 sci-fi classic. Seeing his opening, Wahlberg took the opportunity to explain just want went wrong with his own contribution to the franchise.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it was pretty damn good,” he said. “Well, ours wasn’t. It is what it is. Ours wasn’t. […] “They [Fox] didn’t have the script right. They had a release date before he had shot a foot of film. They were pushing him and pushing him in the wrong direction. You have got to let Tim do his thing.”
For all of his disappointment in the finished product — it performed well enough, grossing $362 million worldwide — Wahlberg said he enjoyed the experience of making Planet of the Apes.
“I have no better time on any movie than I had working with Tim,” he said. “I had the most amazing time with Tim.”
