Lily Collins to Take the Lead in Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead Remake

Lily Collins

First we discovered that the new version of The Evil Dead, directed by Fede Alvarez and rewritten by Diablo Cody, would not feature the iconic character of Ash. Then word got out via plot synopsis that this film would eschew the comedic elements of the original and focus on a young drug addict named Mia whose mother just died. Well, according to Bloody Disgusting, it seems Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Mirror Mirror) might just be playing the lead role.

Sam Raimi’s original 1981 film set a group of friends in a cabin against a group of demons they accidentally unleashed. This new version takes the same basic concept, but changes up the characters, putting Mia in the lead alongside her brother David, his fiance Natalie and their friends Eric and Olivia. Tensions rise as Mia sees the demons, but her friends believe she is still on drugs. The film is set to begin filming in March in New Zealand.

    Sounds interesting.

Worst idea ever… this is a monumental mistake.

How could they even consider remaking such a masterpiece?

Two simple reasons.  First and foremost, $$$.  Simple.  This is a business, so put your sentimental feelings away.  Second, because teenagers won’t watch the original.  Heck, I know kids who straight up refuse to watch Pulp Fiction because it is ‘too old’.  Their words not mine.  So, if you want others to share in the ‘masterpiece’, as you call it, this is the only realistic avenue.

Why even call this the Evil Dead?

Hollywood is never going to learn…we want original material, not remakes.

At least give Ash a cameo….

And the Necronomicon has been replaced with a possessed copy of Twilight. . . this is bull.

Doesn’t sound that appealing. Why do they have to change it to a female lead? Every horror movie of the last 15-20 years has a female lead! – Scream, Last Summer, Hellraiser, Elm Street, The Grudge, The Ring…I could go on! Why not let this horror series keep its male lead!

How are they in any way ‘sharing in the masterpiece’ when what they’re watching resembles ‘The Evil Dead’ in name only?

  • Wyatt Samuel K

Oh yeah, the plot where people in their twenties go into the woods and accidentally unleash a bunch of demons is completely different than this plot where people in their twenties go into the woods and accidentally unleash demons.
