Iron Man 3 Could Be ‘the Best of the Three,’ Robert Downey Jr. Says

While in Brazil stumping for his current release Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Robert Downey Jr. put Tony Stark’s futurist skills to good use when asked by Omelete about Marvel’s Iron Man 3, which opens May 3, 2013.

“I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made,” the actor said. “But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven. It was very odd. It was kind of outrageous. And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart.”

Aside from Downey’s involvement and the presumed return of actors like Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who appeared in the previous films, the only actual piece of information we have is that Shane Black, who directed Downey in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is writing the screenplay and slated to direct.

Yes, remember what made the first one good, and avoid what made the second one boring.

I didn’t find the second movie all that bad. It wasn’t perfect and it was definitely not as cohesive as the first, but it had some good parts. I hope Iron Man 3 can really top the first, though.
