"Batman's" Gotham Was... Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
In its look ahead at 2012, Entertainment Weekly chatted with The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon about the focus of his film. No, he didn’t talk about alien invasions or vengeful godlike creatures; instead he explained where most of the film’s point of view comes from.
“I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what my movie has to be about,” Whedon told the magazine. “So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers’ perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it.”
The Avengers stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, brought together by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury to take on a larger threat posed by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders and Stellan Skarsgård also star. The movie opens May 4.
