"Justice League": Exploring How Superman Returns (Again)
Film, Comic Books
The Los Angeles Times has premiered a new image of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins wielding the Elf-blade Sting in Peter Jackson’s adaptation The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s been years since I last read J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy novel, but I’m guessing from the webs this still is from the scene in Mirkwood, where our hero rescues the Dwarves from giant spiders.
Freeman is joined by Ian McKellen, who returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Also reprising their Lord of the Rings roles are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.
The ensemble cast of The Hobbit also includes Richard Armitage, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Barry Humphries, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Evangeline Lilly, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas and Aidan Turner.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on Dec. 14, 2012, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again on Dec. 13, 2013.
