Could Deadpool Start Shooting This Year, With Ryan Reynolds?

It looks as if Rob Liefeld wasn’t just whistling “Dixie” when he claimed to have seen several minutes of Deadpool test footage. The Geek Files has it on good authority that the X-Men Origins: Wolverine spinoff might just start filming this year, and that Ryan Reynolds, who played Wade Wilson in Wolverine, is still attached to star.

We don’t know much about the project aside from the fact that X-Men film producer Laura Shuler Donner has said they will have some fun with Deadpool’s earlier portrayal in the Wolverine movie, which most fans say was completely out of character.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the R-rated script, with Tim Miller attached to direct.

While X-Men Origins: Wolverine is best left forgotten, Ryan Reynolds might be very good as the Merc with a Mouth. I just hope they keep him masked for the entire movie, otherwise the “casual audience” might be confused by Green Lantern appearing in a Marvel movie.

Deadpool is not a character this going to carry a mainstream movie that needs to appeal to the masses.

Keep Reynolds away from superhero movies.

Just like they were confused by Storm being Catwoman??? or Human Torch being Captain America??

Good point, although Halle Berry looked sufficiently different in both movies and the Fantastic Four movies weren’t really that popular anyway. Still, in the latter case, there was some confusion and commentary among people.

That crappy Green Lantern movie was the best thing that could happen to the Deadpool movie production!!! I hope this gets made :)

Combined, the FF4 movies made $610M

Marvel Movies of late seem to fair really well, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 1&2 X-Men First Class, The Incredible Hulk to name the most successful.  Second string characters hold there own too, Fantastic four had a good showing much like X-Origins

With the major fan expectation of the Deadpool movie, we can look at the Chris Nolan Batman series though he’s not a second string character, he really is seen as a successful Dark Knight.  Just takes the right people to get it right.

Ryan Reynolds…. not sure.  But I know he’s no Hal Jordan.

Neither was blade at the time.

Indeed.  Just cause YOU don’t like something…

Hell yeah Ryan Reynolds plays a perfect merc with a mouth

  • We’re not all like that guy.

He won’t have a ring, mask, or anything to tie him to the green lantern franchise.  After all, moviegoers in the 80′s didn’t think that the main character of the Indiana Jones films was Han Solo.

I think a Deadpool movie could do better than Green Lantern with half or even a fourth of the budget, even if it’s rated R.

That’s assuming, of course, that the movie doesn’t suck. I think good press could make all the difference.

The “casual audience?”  What, are they like dudes who attend movies wearing flip-flops and tracksuit pants?  Why do geeks like you always assume you’re more “aware” than the rest of us?  He’s a friggin’ actor – we know he’s not the REAL Green Lantern. When I saw him in the Proposal I wasn’t thinking, ” You bastard!  Kissing Sandra Bullock!!  What about Carol Ferris?!? You cheating bastard!!”

The casual audience are a lot smarter than you dude.  They cope.

Preach on, brother! People like you ARE Deadpool’s audience.

Keep him soooooo busy that WB can’t use him for Green Lantern 2…

I don’t think enough people saw GL for there to be any confusion. :/
