New Dredd Image Arrives

Courtesy of the Russian website Stark Industries comes a new image of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd from the pages of Total Film magazine.

Dredd, director Pete Travis’ take on the futuristic law enforcer created for 2000 AD by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, also stars Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey and Jason Cope. The image of the scowling star only seems to reenforce Wagner’s recent assertion that, “Karl Urban will not remove his helmet and will not kiss his co-star.”

Dredd opens in 3D on Sept. 21.

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

Sensational…I like how this one looks totally different than the other pics from the movie that have been  released.

“lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Curses Earth”?  Uh, I don’t think so.  Note the “ONE”.  There is Mega-City 2, Texas City, Sov Cities, and who knows what else.

    nitpick much? yaaaaaaaaaaaaawn…

    I think you’re confusing accuracy with nit-picking…

Not nitpicking.  The multiple mega-cities is a big part of the “Judge Dredd universe” and played a part in several storylines.  The “Cursed Earth” storyline was about taking serum to Mega-City Two, the “Apocalypse War” storyline was about the invasion of Mega City One by SovCity One, and so forth.

The sooner you stop expecting movies to be just like the comics, the happier you’ll be.

Wasn’t this picture in Empire magazine a few months ago?

  • Joe Soap

This picture was in Empire mag last year. Not new.

  • Kevin Melrose

    It’s similar, but definitely a different/new photo.
