Bryan Fuller’s Munsters Reboot
Moves to Mockingbird Lane
The planned NBC reboot of The Munsters by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) and Bryan Singer (Jack the Giant Killer)has been described as a cross between True Blood and Modern Family that would reinvent the 1960s sitcom. TVLine now reports that the new take will not only have a different tone from the original, but also a new name: Mockingbird Lane, after the street the nontraditional family lives on.
TVLine also says that casting is under way for the series. This news raises several questions. First up, is this a good idea? Presumably the point of recreating an old series is to capitalize on the name recognition, right? Otherwise, why remake something? Maybe it’s because Fuller and Singer think the basic concept of a family of different monsters (vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein monsters) living in suburbia along with their very normal niece is just too good to pass up.
That leads into the next question: Who should play Herman, Lily, Grandpa, Eddie and Marilyn, if those will even be their names this time around?
