Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk to Star in The CW’s Beauty and the Beast

Smallville alum Kristin Kreuk is returning to The CW in the network’s reboot of the 1980s CBS drama Beauty and the Beast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll fill the role played by Linda Hamilton in the original fantasy drama, although this version is being described as a love story with a procedural twist. There’s no word yet as to who might play her beastly co-star.

The pilot from CBS Television Studios is written by Jennifer Levin (Felicity, Brothers & Sisters) and Sherri Cooper (Everwood, Brothers & Sisters), and directed by Gary Felder. ABC has its own version of the classic fairy tale in the works, a period fantasy from Human Target and Jericho writer-producer Jonathan E. Steinberg.

Kreuk, who played Lana Lang for eight seasons on Smallville, was previously cast in Ronald D. Moore’s rejected NBC pilot 17th Precinct.

Well, at least Scottie doesn’t know about this, right?

So clearly they don’t want to have the better of the two B&TB shows?

So, replace Sarah Conner with Lana Lang… Not exactly an improvement.

  • Tomfitz1

Hey, maybe Ron Perlman can don the fangs and claws for the Vincent role.

    I’m sold.

  • the Dagman

No sale. She was easily the WORST part about Smallville. The show instantly improved when she left it, only for it to be dragged down again mid-season with her return for her contractually obligated remaining episodes. And everything else she has worked on has failed miserably. Which, based on her talent and acting ability, is only rightfully so.

    I am literally speechless…

  • KristenIsGoegeous

Not an improvement? Are you dead from the waist down? Kristen is beautiful, as in BEAUTY. And she is likely to own the part. Great casting!

Atleast Ron Pearlman went on to bigger things. For years, he was ‘The BEast’. He was made fun of. He met woman who had known lonliness and he had to remind them that he (unlike his character) does not live in the sewer, nor has he ever lived in a sewer.

    That’s a joke I heard somewhere.

I don’t think with my penis. She is an untalented hack of an actress. And I do not find her very attractive AT ALL. Maybe it is to do with her personality, or lack of it. When I think of her the words “vapid” and “insipid” come to mind. She is one big turn off to me. Both sexually as well as on the television. My prediction: cancelled less than half way through the first season. Don’t waste your time with this tripe.

    Physically speaking, excellent choice.

  • Kal-El

Wooohooo! Best news in awhile, been waiting to finally see Kristin on tv on a regular basis, her beauty has been sorely missed from television!

  • Kal-El

Hah, you should say the show was instantly cancelled when she left.

  • the Dagman

Except for the fact that it wasn’t. Like, for years.

Kristin is hot.  Surprised she’d do another fantasy/sci-fi show, but good to see her back.  We’ll see if this lasts.

  • Kal-El

The show lasted a decade, for 8 seasons Lana was the main romantic interest of the character.  Yes, I’m counting season 8 because even though Kristin wasn’t part of the whole season, her character was still so important that her return was the main storyline of that season.  Then you have season 9 & 10 without Kristin, do the numbers.

  • Kal-El

Ugh, meant to say “leading actress on the show” not “the main romantic interest of the character”.
