First Look: Supergirl, Wonder Girl and Batgirl From DC Nation Shorts

TV Guide provides our first look at Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonder Girl together from Super Best Friends Forever, the new animated shorts by My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic creator Lauren Faust appearing as part of Cartoon Network’s new DC Nation programming block. (The Supergirl art at right surfaced over the weekend.) The image also finally answers any questions about which version of Wonder Girl we’ll see. Yes, she’s Donna Troy.

DC Nation, which premieres Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. ET/PT, will be anchored by Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, with animated shorts and live-action interstitials scattered throughout. The TV Guide article reveals that, in addition to previously announced characters like Plastic Man, Doom Patrol, Amethyst and the Teen Titans, the shorts will include such second- and third-tier DC Comics characters as Black Lightning, Dr. Fate and Vibe. Yes, Vibe.

But back to Super Best Friends Forever — or S.B.F.F., as the kids say — which Faust says “has plenty of action and fighting, but is really much more focused on comedy and laughs and how much fun it is to be a superhero. It’s like taking a teenage experience but putting a superhero spin on it, in one episode, Supergirl and Batgirl try to convince Wonder Girl to sneak out in Wonder Woman’s invisible jet to go for a joyride.”

  • Chad Vieth

Want to see the Aquabats more so than anything else.

  • Matt Demers

Does that Wonder Girl technically exist anymore? I’m confused.

  • Jeff Kraschinski

They’re all wearing retro outfits in any case. Kara’s is essentially the movie outfit, Babs is basically the 60’s show suit, and Donna’s is hardly current either.

  • Mak

Yeah she does… But the current one is blonde.

  • Mak

    Supergirl has some THICK Thighs…

  • Lesya

You’re running scanned pages of other publications….. piracy!

  • Ray

I love that we are using the Donna Troy version of Wonder Girl! Yay.

  • Anonymous

     So thats a “no” then…

  • Jacob

    Not if they have permission.

  • Jacob

They’re different characters. Cassie =/= Donna Troy.

  • Ziza9

     I second this.

  • Dennis Roy

That looks like a John K variation on Plastic Man. Always thought he looked better with the red leggings and black shorts.

  • Joseph C Wren

Another reason why they messed up by not hard rebooting ALL the titles.  They are using Wally West and Dick Grayson as KF & Robin in Young Justice, and now Donna Troy in this,  when someone wants to go READ about their new interest they get Bart, Damian and Cassie and are like ‘who are these people?’ and don’t start reading comics.
