Dwayne Johnson Circles Hercules

Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in MGM’s Hercules, the Brett Ratner-directed adaptation Radical Publishing’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Variety reports.

Created by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, the 2008 miniseries follows the Greek hero and his six battle-worn companions as they’re called upon by the Thracian king to train his army. But in Thrace Hercules and his band of lost souls discover how far they’ve fallen and what it will take to travel the path to redemption.

The comic was adapted by Ryan Condol, who wrote the screenplay for Alex Proyas’ ill-fated interpretation of Paradise Lost. MGM’s Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Film 44′s Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey, as well as Radical Pictures’ Barry Levine. Radical’s Jesse Berger will executive produce.

So… no problem with a greek hero being black? None at all?  They’re not even going to try to have the character resemble the legendary hero.  They might as well cast the woeful Kevin Sorbo again.

This is as bad as having an Australian actor playing Perseus in Clash and Wrath of the Titans.  He doesn’t even try to sound greek.  At least Henry Cavill gave it a go in Immortals.

Don’t get me wrong – I love the Rock.  Faster was excellent.  But apart from having enormous muscles he’s completely wrong for this role.
