Ryan Reynolds Debuts Official "Deadpool" Suit
In his seemingly endless quest to continually put boots to asses, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has lined up not one, but two more action flicks to star in. Journey 2 just came out, he’s also got G.I. Joe: Retaliation coming out this summer as well with Pain and Gain and Snitch in the works. Beyond that, he also committed to a pair of graphic novel adaptations.
Variety reports that the star has officially signed on to star in Brett Ratner’s upcoming Hercules film. This one’s based on the 2008 Radical Publishing comic Hercules: The Thracian War by Steve Moore. Filming on the MGM flick is set to start in New Zealand come October. It’s actually surprising that Johnson has been acting as long as he has and not yet played the role that fellow buff action stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno filled during their careers.
Johnson also plans to star in the film version of an upcoming Oni Press graphic novel Ciudad, so says Deadline. The GN–about a negotiator recovering a drug lord’s kidnapped daughter has been in the works since around 2008–is written by writer/director brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (Welcome To Collingwood, You, Me & Dupree and several episodes of Community) along with Ande Parks. The Brothers Russo will direct based on a script by Joe. They’re looking forward to working in a different genre than normal, they said in a statement about the project: “Exploring genre has always been a driving motivation for us as filmmakers. This movie is the culmination of a long time ambition to bring our sensibilities to an action thriller.”
