Brevoort Talks "Captain America's" Shocking, Controversial Twist
Colin Salmon, the British actor perhaps best known for his roles in the James Bond and Resident Evil franchises, has joined the cast of The CW’s Arrow pilot, Variety reports.
Based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow, the project stars Hung alum Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a wealthy young bad boy who, after spending five years shipwrecked on an island, returns to Starling City — changed from Star City — with a mastery of the bow and a determination to make a difference.
Salmon will play Walter Steele, a former business associate of Oliver’s late father Robert Queen (portrayed in flashbacks by Jamey Sheridan of Law & Order: Criminal Intent) and the No. 2 executive at Queen Consolidated. He married Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson) following the death of her husband and disappearance of her son during an ill-fated yachting expedition. Steele, like most of the characters in the pilot, has roots in DC comics: He was introduced in August 2010 in the Brightest Day relaunch of Green Arrow, where he was CEO of Queen Industries.
“We’re working very, very closely with DC,” Warner Bros. TV President Peter Roth assured TVLine. “We’re making sure that each of the original characters are honored, are respected, and any changes that we make are being made with the sanction and endorsement of DC.”
Production begins next week in in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the pilot, which Roth, like The CW’s Thom Sherman before him, compares to the Jason Bourne film franchise. Created by by Green Lantern screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and Fringe co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, Arrow also stars Katie Cassidy as Oliver’s one-time love interest Dinah “Laurel” Lance, Colin Donnell as his best friend Tommy Merlyn, David Ramsey as his bodyguard John Diggle, and Willa Holland as his celebutante sister Thea “Speedy” Queen.
