Marvel’s The Avengers Assembles Six New Character Posters

Marvel has premiered new characters posters for The Avengers, released last night as tickets for midnight screenings went on sale in select cities across the United States. You’ll notice that most of the images have been pulled from the poster that debuted late last month, with Captain America presumably being lifted from a still. Also, there’s no Nick Fury or Thor … yet. I’m guessing they’ll pop up later today.

Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig. The film opens May 4.

so I see they merely resized the previously released poster? who the heck is approving these god awful designs?

  • Neil.

They totally missed the chance on this one. Bring back Drew Struzan.

I think the shift from Drew Struzan style posters to the current photo ones in movies might have something to do with licensing the actor’s likeness.

  • Jacob

I think it would’ve been better if it had been one shot, each poster moving to the character in the background, as if it was all the same moment.

  • Veronica

My focus stayed on the person in front for one second and then went ‘who’s that in the back?’ and looked at them instead. Also – with all due respect I *know* he’s not a part of the Avengers team – but where is  the guy they’re fighting? (Not naming names as some of you may not know yet).
I mean… in all truth and honesty more people (I think) will be cheering *him* on than the Avengers… or at least admitting he put on a fantastic performance.

Thor’s ‘hammer’ is covering up BW’s booty.  Subtle gay agenda strikes again …

    ; )

Cap’s helmet looks a lot better in this one than in any of the other stuff I’ve seen. Maybe they got it from it’s “good side.” Also, Is it just me or do the wings look slightly raised? That’s pretty cool if it’s the case.

    photo shop all characters

Why did Thor, a superhero, only get one poster.

    Cap’s costume looks so cheap…

  • Ken Matzigkeit

Still as butt fugly as every other poster they’ve put out for this movie.

  • Matt

Would’ve loved to have seen a LotR-esque poster, or even a Star Wars/Indiana Jones type.

  • Statham

“Cover up that ass before we start having the parodies again with all the male butts on display!!” screamed Marvel’s publicity team.

  • Mwedmer

One would think, that being an Avengers film, that the Marketing team would actually make a poster that sort of calls back to one of the classic covers. Like Avengers #4. They need to make a poster of that.
Or even Avengers #1 with them squaring off against Loki. HOw awesome would that be?

Cap’s costume continues to stand out as ridiculous-looking. There was a way to make it work in a live action setting. This wasn’t it.

Why is Stark not wearing his helmet?! And Cap’s armor looks like a glorified cosplayer’s costume. @marvel #avengersarelosers

I like the one with Robin Scherbatsky wearing a catsuit and wielding a gun, Barney would be so turned on right now.

    Don’t be a hero Scherbatsky!! :)

    as for the villains – you see a little detail in the toys;

  • NHL Jerseys

this is like what super-powered people would probably actually wear – between this and Batman Inc (codpiece!) and yes, Steve Roger’s super-soldier outfit. There’s no reason they’d actually wear something baroque and flourished like so many 70s-based outfits. Like race-car drivers, without the logo-overload.
    But that sash, oy…
