Axel-In-Charge: Extending "Secret Wars," Excitement for a "Totally Awesome Hulk"
Although filming of Fox’s long-delayed The Wolverine won’t begin until later this year, after star Hugh Jackman wraps Les Miserables, we may — may — already have our first look at the teaser poster for the film, described as a “darker” take on the 1982 Marvel miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.
Screen Rant has what’s purported to be an Instagram photo taken in the office of director James Mangold showing the sun at the center of Japan’s flag sliced by Wolverine’s claws, a nod to the film’s primary setting. At the bottom of the poster are the words “Rising Soon,” a play on Rising Sun.
The Wolverine, which Jackson has said will deviate from the source material, finds Logan traveling to Japan to battle ninjas and the politics of the Tokyo criminal underworld for the heart of his ex-lover. Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) wrote the first draft, with Total Recall screenwriter Mark Bomback brought in to take another stab following the departure of original director Darren Aronofsky. The film opens July 26, 2013.
