Netflix Passes on Terra Nova

Early this month, news broke that Fox wouldn’t be renewing the big-budget sci-fi drama Terra Nova back to its line-up, but that didn’t mean the series was dead as a dinosaur. As soon as the series was canceled, 20th Century Fox TV began shopping it around to other outlets, with Netflix quickly emerging as a frontrunner. However, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, those plans are extinct.

The only reason we’ve been given is that the two parties couldn’t agree on terms. Terra Nova didn’t bring in strong ratings in the United States, but had good showings overseas. It’s also produced by Steven Spielberg, whose name carries quite a bit of cache. On the other hand, all the special effects and elaborate sets make it a fairly costly show. With Netflix no longer poking around, the options seem limited. Still, Fox TV is holding out hope and has yet to release the actors from the contracts at this point.

It’s best that TN doesn’t end up on Netflix as it would sully the great catalog of outstanding movies & TV shows they already have. Yes, the show is THAT bad.

I really wanted to like this show because we are so starved for sci-fi on TV these days.  But, the characters on this show ranged from bland to annoying.  It was so bad, that I won’t mourn its passing.

Hahaha!  I just had a thought of FOX renewing the show next season, firing the cast and writers, hiring all new ones and calling it, “The NEW and Improved TERRA NOVA!”  Oh well, all’s bad that end’s bad.  I get my HD locals from my DISH service because my antenna reception is terrible but I watch A LOT of network TV.  In fact, I’m not alone, as my employer, DISH, found that over fifty percent of TV watchers watch network TV each night.  I was thrilled to find out the new Hopper whole-home DVR records the networks automatically each night between 7-10 p.m.  Perhaps Terra Nova would have done better if it were in people’s DVR lineup?
