Agent Coulson Finally Receives His Own Avengers Poster

Just in time for actor Clark Gregg’s 50th birthday, Marvel last night released a new Avengers poster spotlighting fan-favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson.

“Some of you voiced a desire to see the Son of Coul in posters for @Marvel @Avengers.” Gregg wrote on Twitter, revealing the banner. “To u I say thanks … and BOO-YA!” It joins the six other Avengers character posters released in mid-March.

Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig. The film opens May 4.

You know, it’s kind of cool that Clark Gregg has been able to get this kind of milage out of a character that was pretty much a background character  in Iron Man.

Did they actually accentuate his wrinkles? Did they anti-touch-up this poster?

In clips of the movie, he actually looks pretty hot. Here he looks old. Maybe they were trying to make Samuel Jackson look better by making Clark Gregg look worse

Am I insane, or did they make him look a bit like Rudy Gulianni?

  • Alex Witenberg

Never mind Avengers.  I want a SHIELD film that would be some strange hybrid of Roger Moore-era James Bond and Get Smart.

Not many people get away with upstaging samuel l jackson in a film this big but clark deserves it happy bday man

  • sephy

He’s probably the happiest cast member in this movie. What went from a bit part in Iron Man 1 exploded into a multi-movie role.

  • Paul Bonzulac

Whedon is so gonna kill him in this.

  • Dekko

@Alex: I personally would not want that, but it does make me wish they could spin-off a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie that has more the sensibilities of “X-Men:First Class” where they gave a nod to the goofier aspects of the time period without being camp. Maybe they could even use a white WWII vet Nick Fury. Some point down the line they could even explain the transition between the two nick Furies.

Y’know… I think that they actually DID accentuate his wrinkles. I saw him recently and at Comic Con. He certainly didn’t look that haggard or sleep deprived.

  • Jugga Lord

And let’s not forget that he’s also playing Coulson again in the new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. JK Simmons gets that extra mileage by reprising his J Jonah Jameson character too. See, kids? Doing a great job even if you’re not in the lead DOES pay off. =)

  • Jugga Lord

Dude, that’s so funny because it’s so true. =P

    LUV it!  Congrats Clark!

Hopefully, he doesn’t spend the entire movie shouting “9/11″ every 5 minutes! ;)

Glad it’s working out so well for him!

  • Kyle

I think they superimposed Bruce Willis’ wrinkles on his face to make him look more badass.

  • Count Dracula

My least favorite thing about the Marvel Studios efforts is that this character should be named Jasper Sitwell!

  • Ortiz

    Just great!! Kudos to Gregg.
