Luke Cage History: From Hero for Hire to Hollywood
TV, Comic Books
With the opening of The Avengers now just a month away, the promotional tie-ins are rolling out in full force, led by new television ads for the 2013 Acura RDX, “the official vehicle of Marvel’s The Avengers,” and Target. While both spots are undeniably cute — what’s not to like about pint-sized versions of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? — the Acura commercial delivers a few chuckles and the best look to date at the enormous serpentine creature (or ship?) shown pursuing Iron Man at the end of the previous Avengers trailer.
Labeled “Leviathan” by the online rumor mill, a name supported by a call sheet from the film’s Cleveland set, the creature has been theorized to be everything from Fin Fang Foom to Sub-Mariner’s girlfriend Marrina to the Midgard Serpent. Although the Acura spot doesn’t solve the mystery of Leviathan’s identity, it does offer a better look at its whale-like fins, not to mention its creepy skull-like face.
Opening May 4, director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig.
Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures Marvel’s The Avengers — the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.
