"Ant-Man and the Wasp" Film & More Marvel Phase 3 Updates Announced
British actress Charity Wakefield, who starred in the BBC miniseries Sense and Sensibility, has been cast as Marilyn in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane, Deadline reports. She joins Eddie Izzard, who signed on last month to play Grandpa in the Bryan Singer-directed pilot.
Developed by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, the update of the 1960s comedy has been described as “Modern Family meets True Blood,” with an emphasis on the origins of the offbeat family.
Airing from 1964 to 1966 on CBS, The Munsters was a satire of classic movie monsters and contemporary sitcoms that centered on a family of monsters that considered itself a typical working-class household. It starred Fred Gwynne as the Frankenstein’s monster-esque Herman, Yvonne De Carlo as his vampire wife Lily, Butch Patrick as their werewolf son Eddie, Al Lewis as Lily’s sarcastic father Sam Dracula (aka Grandpa), and Beverley Owen then Pat Priest as Lily’s “plain” niece Marilyn.
The Marilyn of Mockingbird Lane is described as a well-mannered college student who was saved as an infant from being devoured by her own mother. Although she clashes with Grandpa and cousin Eddie, she gets along well with Aunt Lily and Uncle Herman.
The 31-year-old Wakefield was previously cast in Legally Mad, a 2009 pilot from David E. Kelley that was destined for NBC but ultimately passed on by the network.
