X-POSITION: Burnham, Culver, Villalobos Spell Out "E Is For Extinction"
Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene on AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been promoted to a series regular for Season 3, TVLine reports, suggesting her character will have a more prominent role now that the survivors have fled Hershel’s farm.
Maggie’s arc on the hit television series has already diverged from that of her comic-book counterpart, who remained on the farm with Glenn and her family after her father ordered Rick’s group to leave. They rejoined the other survivors later at the semi-abandoned prison only when the farm became too dangerous. But in the Season 2 finale, Maggie, Glenn, Hershel and Maggie’s half-sister Beth were driven from their farm with the others by a swarming horde of walkers, and will presumably seek refuge in the prison shown looming in the distance during the episode’s closing moments.
Cohan joins remaining series regulars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs and Norman Reedus. As TVLine notes, however, Cohan’s promotion hardly ensures her character’s longevity: Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn, whose characters were killed off in the final episodes of Season 2, were also regulars.
The Walking Dead returns in October with a 16-episode season that, like the shorter Season 2, will be divided into two parts.
