Kevin Feige on Avengers ‘Scene,’ Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch Rights

Robert Downey Jr. ignited a firestorm of speculation last week when he divulged that the cast of The Avengers was being reassembled following the film’s world premiere to shoot “one more scene.” While director Joss Whedon was quick to dismiss the remark as a joke, Mark Ruffalo confirmed his co-star’s statement.

But Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige insists Downey’s comment, and the extent of the shoot, has been overblown.

“I will tell you this: It was not a scene. It was not a scene,” he told Blogomatic3000 at the film’s European premiere. “There’s little things. It’s been blown out of proportion. Which is fun, I like that things are blown out of proportion. Sometimes they’re true sometimes they’re not.”

Okay, so it’s not “a scene.” But will whatever is result in a change to the current cut of The Avengers? “There is the potential that there will be one little change,” Feige said. “People might not even notice it. It’s not a big thing.”

In a separate interview at the premiere with Hey U Guys, he was asked about the rights status of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, Marvel mutants who served as early members of the Avengers, and revealed that, “It’s a little complicated, but if they [Fox, which holds the X-Men rights] want to use them in the X-Men movie they could, [but] if we want to use them in The Avengers movie, we could.”

Fiege also confirmed what was already known, that the Captain America sequel will be “primarily” set in the present day, but “potentially” with flashbacks. And he gave what’s become his pat answer about the long-gestating Ant-Man movie: “It’s as close as it’s ever been.”

Opening May 4, The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig.

I often wondered about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. I would love to see them appear in an Avengers sequel (then again, I felt that both Ant Man and Wasp should have appeared in the first movie), but assumed Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were swallowed up in the X-Men movies. Here’s hoping we see Black Panther and Vision in a future Avengers movie, and, though I know this is absolutely ridiculous, I would love to see the Black Knight sometime in the future.

Actually Black Knight is a really cool idea, but in a historic setting please, not a contemporary setting. Although most people would say make him a modern day hero.

If the Marvel movie machine keeps chugging along, there could be lots of potential Avengers added to the roster…which would allow people like RDJ and such to  bow out if they wanted to.  There’s been talks of a Luke Cage movie, Iron Fist, Black Panther…all Avengers in their own right.  The Ant Man movie is an easy way to get the idea of Pym particles out there to allow both him and Wasp to show up.  Falcon would be pretty easy to introduce…maybe even introduce him in the Cap sequel…or go the Ultimates route like they did with Hawkeye and introduce him in the SHIELD spinoff.  Too many Avengers…why bother trying to explain Scarlet Witch’s powers to a movie audience?

Come to think of it, I saw Wolverine: Origins recently, and there was a white haired teenager with super speed powers imprisoned in Stryker’s prison for mutants, and right away I thought of Quicksilver. Still, the prisoner was unnamed, and maybe there is another white haired mutant with super speed powers out there.
As for Black Knight, I think I would go for both a historical setting and a modern setting. I could see a Black Knight movie being made which takes place during the time of Camelot, with Sir Percy being the Black Knight, and that leading to a present day Avengers movie where Dane Whitman picks up after his ancestor in the present day. You could also have a story where Dane is sent back in time to be the Black Knight of Camelot times, and then is brought back to the present to join the Avengers. The thing is, I would want him to eventually be in the present time, because I like the idea of a knight in our present day world. Plus, it would be cool to see him flying around on a winged horse in our modern world.

I think that for the Scarlet Witch to work in a movie they’ll have to change her powers.  Her probability altering powers are too vague.  She’d have to have something like telekinesis or energy blasts to work in a movie.  While I think that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are cool characters I don’t really think they fit into the Avengers movie universe.  I’d like to see Wonder Man and the Vision show up, though.

Well, since she is The Scarlet Witch, why not just let her power be magic.  Magic that largely causes bad luck.  Since they have Thor, they’ve essentially acknowledged that there is magic after a fashion in this world.

They could make it quite vague, just causing supernatural events of bad luck(people/objects falling, projectiles missing their targets, etc) and simulating telekinesis(making people or things float, break, catch on fire).
I would love to see her and Quicksilver in a movie, they would look bad-ass.(I would like Eva Green as Wanda, best option, because she is attractive but not in the “hottie” type)

I think it would be great to see more of the marvel universe on film like Quicksilver. and Scarlet. And also, I think it will make more money or the same amount of money. As a fan of marvel films and, cartoons, comics speaking.
