Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy Get Violent in First Lawless Trailer

The Weinstein Company has premiered the first trailer for Lawless, the John Hillcoat-directed historical crime drama starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Jessica Chastain.

An adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s 2008 novel The Wettest County in the World, itself based on the true story of the author’s grandfather and two great-uncles, the film follows the Bondurant Boys, a notorious gang of moonshiners who ran liquor through Franklin County, Virginia, during Prohibition and in the years after.

Musician/author Nick Cave, who worked with Hillcoat on The Proposition, wrote the screenplay and composed the music. Lawless opens Aug. 31.

Shia LaBeouf? That’s all I need to know to avoid this movie.

Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Tom Hardy being badasses has me sold.

That … looks like an acting tour-de-force all around.  Could be great!

  • darthtigris

    Well that’s just dumb.

what good movie has he been in?  Better yet, what movie has his acting been at least average?

Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Guy Pierce … WHY are we talking about Shia LaBeouf?  Seriously, it’s like looking at a smart, vibrant, gorgeous woman but rejecting her because she she has a birthmark on the bottom of her left foot.  Shia’s not in the same league as the others, but who cares when the trailer makes it clear this is ensemble awesomeness at the highest level.  Avoiding this movie solely because of him is DUMB.

that is just waaay to ignorant a comment to make.

Back in the 90s it was  uncool to say “hearthrob” Leo DiCaprio is a good actor. Especially around the time he made THE BEACH in 99.
Now Leo is considered one of the great actors of his generation.  EVERYTHING he is in he is good in.

Shia is a kid and easy target.  But he is darn good in trasnformers. His comedic timing is rare.  He was decent in INDY4 too- but the movie & part were not great.

Wallstreet is another one.  The kid is good and has plenty of range.  Name another actor of his age in movies that is better.

You’re absolutely delusional.  Shia is the most overrated actor ( I use the word lightly) out today.  You can’t compare Leo to Shia.  Leo had range from heart-throb in Titanic to his star making turn in Eating Gilbert Grapes. He’s worked with ome of the greatest directors around!  And he’s learnt from them.  His resume is awe-inspiring.

Shia has the laughable Transformers franchise, almost singlehandedly destroyed the Indiana Jones franchise, and made Oliver Stone and Micael Douglas’ attempt at reviving Gordon Gecko blow.  The only film he even remotely “acted” in was Disturbia and it was a rip off of Rear Window.  Even Eagle Eye was a suckfest.

The only things Shia does well is run around, stutter like a maniac, and yell.  He’s a three trick pony.  He does not have range at all.  God knows how he has even managed to have a career – I figure he must be related to someone powerful in Hollywood.

Sorry darth but Shia is nowhere even remotely as subtle or surreptitious as a birthmark on the bottom of a foot.  He can’t be ignored.  He’s like an enormous cyst on the face of a once gorgeous woman, a goiter on the neck of a hottie, an unabsorbed twin head sticking out the ear of supermodel.

I can see it now – a subtle exchange between Hardy, Pierce, and Oldman, that is laced with tension and drama.  And then fucking Shia ruins the whole scene by running around, shouting, stuttering and overacting.  He’s a fuckup.

I would avoid the fiom myself.  It’s dumb to think you could ignore that festering sore of an actor.

I have to agree with you – not only is it irritating to see him in a movie with such a stellar cast, but fancy giving him top billing over Tom Hardy in this trailer. I want to shove him out of the way every time I watch the trailer. He just plain spoils it and for the life of me I can’t understand why the kid annoys the hell out of me so much, but he does. And it’s not just me – I’ve seen comments all over the web about this. People are pissed off that he’s been given top billing over Hardy and the others because he sucks big time.
