How "DC Universe: Rebirth" Fulfills Its Promise of Restoring Legacy to DC Comics
First we saw the teaser poster for Quentin Tarantino’s ode to the spaghetti Western Django Unchained and it piqued our interested. Then we got a look at the full synopsis for the film, and we were even more excited. Now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we get the first images from the film of Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Foxx told EW he thinks of the role of ex-slave turned bounty hunter Django as Shaft meets Clint Eastwood, and that Waltz’s Dr. King Schutlz helps set him on the road to revenge against Django’s former owners the Brittle Brothers.
“Christoph’s character is a little aloof to what slavery actually is,” Foxx said. “He’s not familiar with everything, and when he sees atrocities, it’s Greek to him. But Django lets him know this is the way the world is and we got to get used to it. He teaches Django certain things he needs to become a whole man, and [Django] also teaches Christoph that when life deals you these cards, here’s what you’ve got to do.”
DiCaprio, whom you can see in the other photo, plays plantation owner Calvin Candie, a man who pits his slaves against each other in gladiator-like combat.
Django Unchained, produced by The Weinstein Company and Columbia Pictures, opens Dec. 25.
