Milligan Gets Weird with Erotic Thriller "The Discipline" at Image Comics
District 9 star Sharlto Copley has signed on to play the villain in director Spike Lee’s remake of the South Korean revenge thriller Oldboy, Deadline reports. The South African actor, who was offered the role last month, joins Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen in the Mandate Pictures film.
Based on the manga series by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi, Oldboy centers on a man kidnapped and held captive for 15 years with only a television for company. When he’s suddenly released, he sets out to discover the identity of his captor and the reason for his imprisonment, only to find that his kidnapper has even worse plans for him. Director Park Chan-Wook’s original film, released in 2003, won the Grand Prize Jury Award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
Copley will play the mysterious billionaire out to destroy the life of Brolin’s character. According to Deadline, he’s also beginning work on Open Grave, director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s follow-up to Apollo 18, in which he stars as a man who awakes in a pit filled with rotting bodies and begins to believe he’s the killer.
