Which Heroes Deserve Their Avengers Spotlight Next?

By now, chances are you’ve seen Marvel’s The Avengers if you have any interest at all in seeing it – or, for that matter, have a partner who has any interest at all in seeing it – and have made your own mind up about its quality or lack thereof (But, really, come on; it’s a good movie). With follow-ups apparently planned for potentially four of the six “official” Avengers, though, we started to wonder: Which character from the movie most deserves the solo spotlight next?

Forget, for a second, that we’re already guaranteed Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and a second Captain America movie; what we’re curious about is which character you came away from Avengers thinking, “I want to see more of them“? I’ll admit; as much as I love Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, I’d much rather see a well-done Black Widow spy thriller than another solo Iron Man outing and, given the two strikes against him to date, I’m already pessimistic about a third Hulk movie, even with Mark Ruffalo on board. But what about you…? Do you want to see further installments in solo sagas already underway, or would you want to see what the new characters have to offer? Vote in the poll below and use the comments to justify your choice if you feel the urge.

This article seems a bit bias considering most people will of course vote for Black Widow just because the author suggests it.

  • Patrick Keely

I would much rather have a Hawkeye and Black Widow movie.

  • manofsan

I’d like to see Ruffalo do a solo Hulk film

  • Brian Marino

I was also thinking a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie.  They worked very well together.

  • Maxwell Lord IV

Black Widow in a Mission Impossible type movie is what I want.

  • jrau18

“given the two strikes against him to date”

    What? The Incredible Hulk rocked.

  • jrau18

Cap’s got a pretty good rogue’s gallery, they just don’t get as much spotlight.

Widow and Hawkeye would be spy movies. Enemies would be guys like HYDRA and A.I.M.

GotG, Inhumans, and Dr. Strange are all in development at Marvel, who has the rights to Strange/Namor (dno why you think they don’t).

  • Tev Smith

I want to see a Hulk TV-show, starring Mark Ruffalo, set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • GeoMadcat

now we need to add, doctor strange, scarlet witch and vision tp the group, being thanos is the next villian, we need some magic users

  • Lyle

How about Vision, Black Panther, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, or Black Knight?

  • theaceofknaves

What on earth are you going on about? Widow and Hawkeye could make for a great espionage action thriller. You wouldn’t even have to consider it a superhero film.

But anyway i want to see Marvel go cosmic. Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova or Quasar or Captain Marvel. I think they need to introduce these elements if they want to continue to build Thanos as the “big bad”.

  • Lewis4510

The gem on Loki’s scepter was likely one of the Infinity gems. Thor took the tesseract back with him but left the scepter.  Know doubt Thanos will want it back.

  • jrau18

Where are you getting that it was an Infinity Gem? It was using cube power. Just like everything else.

I definately think Mark needs his own Movie. He was.. too amazing as the Hulk. Perfection! But biasly I want a Hawkeye Movie. Maybe with Mockingbird thrown in <3

  • nOmi

As you know that all the rest of the Avengers have had great success with their movies, it’s got to be HULK!!!  Black Widow & Hawkeye together would be great but Hulk’s the true heart & hero of Avengers.  He’s the best HULK SMASH!!!

  • Trekker4747

A Black Widow “origin story” dealing with what happened between her and Hawkeye would be an ideal.way to go. (Even if it would be something of a “prequel” to the entire MCU.)

  • GhostMatter

Black Widow, if only for the fact that she’s the only woman in the main group. After that, Nick Fury (the first Cap?) and Hulk.

  • Norm

Black Widow give me a break. She isn’t even a superhero imo. She has no powers.

  • Norm

I would rather see Giant/Ant-Man & Wasp than BW. Or even Scarlet Witch, Ms Marvel someone with powers not a super spy. Even a Nick Fury movie isn’t appealing. Its been done a million times.

  • Steven Simmons

Wait, two strikes against him?  The last hulk movie that MARVEL made actually was critically and commercially successful.  In other words: you’re crazy.

  • jpooch

    Hawkeye/Black Widow: Agents of SHIELD

If they want to give Samuel L Jackson an opportunity to feature in it they
can, but if they would rather save his appearances for other movies then Clint & Natasha can report to Maria Hill. As a result they can flesh out her character a bit. Then throw in a pair of rookie agents named Quarterman and Woo to fill out the supporting cast!

  • Tobey Cook

If they do Hulk they need to get Joss Whedon to direct, given how well he handled the character.

  • Lastnamecumbie

I say hulk as long as he can control the hulk like he learned to in the movie

  • SJNeal

I voted Thor.  Only because there was no Wonder Man option.

  • Fred10

How about Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne?  They are the only members who are just glaringly missing. You could have Hank working on Ultron, who turns into a threat that Hank can’t handle without the Avengers.  Then introduce Vision… That would make a GREAT movie!

  • Kryptoniteking

I’m not voting because there’s no choice of “All of the above”!

  • beacon

I really think they should have done Captain America
2 before Avengers because they missed a lot of opportunities for “man out of
    time” stuff

I’m tempted to vote for Hawkeye because he was neglected so
    much in the movie.

However I have to vote for the Hulk. This is the best movie
Hulk we’ve seen so far and I want more of it.

  • Joe Dy

Why not a SHIELD movie, starring Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Maria Hill and Agent Coulson? (Yes, I know. But man he was just too cool. Maybe in flashback sequences?)

  • Jim H.

Someone, I think it was Kevin Feige, said in an interview that the deal they worked out with Fox over characters years ago allows Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch to be used by either company, but I’m not sure of the details.

  • uatu13

Hulk was definitely the most interesting chracter in the Avengers movie, and I’d love to see the Leader in a movie (as he was hinted in the last Hulk movie anyways). I think it’s also time for an Ant-Man movie so he can be added into the next Avengers flick naturally.

  • theaceofknaves

no it wasn’t. it got the same critical reception as the first one and made about 5 million more than it.

  • theaceofknaves

it could have been the mind gem, considering how loki was using it to mind control people. and he got it off thanos at the start of the film, he had the sceptre before he even was in the same room as the cosmic cube/tesseract. i think it’s safe to say it was the mind gem.

  • Stephen J. Mitchell

Let’s see what REALLY happened in Budapest when Black Widow and Hawkeye were there!

  • Goetzo55-misc

I can see the success of the Avengers resulting in a SHIELD movie with Nick Fury, Maria Hill, the Widow and Hawkeye. That could a great spy thriller, bringing in AIM or Hydra as the antagonists, and help set up for future projects.

  • Drew Melbourne

“This article seems a bit bias considering most people will of course vote for Black Widow just because the author suggests it.”

    The poll results disagree.

  • rex

If anything, I’d love to see a Black Widow/Hawkeye origin movie, just based on the little backstory Black Widow gives Loki talking about how she owes Hawkeye.
