NBC Moves Community to Friday,
Confirms 30 Rock’s Final Season

When Community returns in the fall for its 13-episode fourth season, the cult comedy will move with Whitney from Thursday to Friday, leading an NBC lineup capped off by Grimm and Dateline.

“I know that most people in our industry think Friday is a graveyard but we don’t really believe that,” NBC’s Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt told EW.com. “If you don’t build it they won’t come. We got some traction with Grimm, it’s the No. 1 18-49 on Fridays. We thought if we have a base there, let’s see if we can give Grimm a lead-in with these shows that actually have fan bases — including Whitney.”

Greenblatt also told reporters on Sunday that the abbreviated orders for Community doesn’t necessarily signal the end for the beloved comedy. Just as unclear is whether series creator Dan Harmon returns as showrunner. “I expect his voice to be part of it,” Deadline quoted the executive as saying.

But less than 24 hours after he sent mixed signals about the future of 30 Rock, Greenblatt reiterated this morning that the sitcom will indeed end next season with a one-hour finale.

Friday night is terrible for Community, but at least it wasn’t canceled. Logically, it’s probably the last season so it doesn’t have to worry about declining viewership.

Well, NBC just guaranteed one less viewer for Community. Thanks!

Why would you punish Community (or yourself) over the move? Just watch it online later.
