EXCLUSIVE: Lemire, Ramos Launch "Extraordinary X-Men" Post-"Secret Wars"
With the opening of The Amazing Spider-Man less than two months away, Columbia Pictures is revving up the promotional machine with viral websites, behind-the-scenes videos and, of course, photos.
When you tack “Mutagen” to the end of the recently debuted OscorpIndustries.com, you’re taken to a slick video blog focusing on Dr. Curt Connors (played by Rhys Ifans) and his transformation into the classic Spider-Man villain the Lizard. “What I like about the Lizard is that, in terms of a villain, he’s not the worst villain in the world,” director Marc Webb says. “He’s not a mustache-twirling guy who just wants to terrorize people. He believes he’s doing the right thing.”
And speaking of Webb, the director has joined Twitter, where he shared new images of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker perched atop a street light and, accompanied by the words “A Reptile Dysfunction,” Spider-Man wrestling with the Lizard’s tail.
The film, which opens July 3, also stars Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Embeth Davidtz and Annie Parisse.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance — leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
