The Late Shows: Series That Won’t Be Returning in September

We’re in upfronts week, when the networks announce their new line-ups for the new television year starting in September, revealing what shows are returning and what shows are premiering. Less excitingly for fans and creators, however, it’s also when the shows get officially cancelled by the networks, sometimes without making much noise about it. If you’re wondering whether your favorite bubble shows have quietly met their end, here’s a list of the shows that won’t be returning for next year.

Definitely Canceled To Date:
A Gifted Man (CBS)
Alcatraz (FOX)
Allan Gregory (FOX)
Are You There Chelsea (NBC)
Awake (NBC)
Bent (NBC)
Breaking In (FOX)
Charlie’s Angels (ABC)
CSI Miami (CBS)
The Finder (FOX)
The Firm (NBC)
Free Agents (NBC)
Harry’s Law (NBC)
How To Be A Gentleman (CBS)
I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX)
Man Up (ABC)
Missing (ABC)
Napoleon Dynamite (FOX)
NYC 22 (CBS)
Pan Am (ABC)
The Playboy Club (NBC)
Prime Suspect (NBC)
Ringer (CW)
The River (ABC)
Rob (CBS)
Secret Circle (CW)
Terra Nova (FOX)
Unforgettable (CBS)
Work It (ABC)

Of course, there is the slight possibility some of these shows may migrate to other channels; ABC’s Cougar Town, for example, has been cancelled by that network but picked up by TBS already, so keep hope alive for a little longer… But I may just be in denial because I really, really wanted to see Finder get a second season. What shows will you miss the most?

Surprisingly, I was not attached to any of these canceled shows.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever watched any of them.  The only exception to that is that I would watch the last 2 minutes of Finder while waiting for Fringe.

aw man are you kidding me? Awake was such a good show!

  • xaos

I was interested in Awake but never tuned in. Awake fans, I guess that you can blame me. Mea culpa.

  • RunnerX13

    Sucks for Ringer.

  • Michael Payton

Awake was one of NBC’s lowest rated shows. Which is saying a lot for a network that often hits 5th place behind Univision. .

  • Summer

BFF, Charlie’s Angels, GCB, Ringer, and Secret Circle for me.

  • E. Travis

I watched the first three episodes of Awake.  And then I just… forgot it was there.  An intriguing premise, and put together pretty well.

But … I don’t know.  It just didn’t hook me like I’d hoped.

I’m a little disappointed that Terra Nova is being canceled.  I enjoyed it.

Awake was awesome, but I saw the writing on the wall as soon as I saw the first episode (maybe even before that). It was just too SMART for network tv. Heck, it was probably too smart for TV period. Just a well written, well acted, very cool show. I wish people would have watched it. I’ve enjoyed the ride so much.

(And can’t wait to tune into the final two episodes—this Thursday and next Thursday! I want to see what happens. The Awake writers saw it has a good ending. I hope so…).

Also: I really liked Alcatraz! I was hoping for awhile…but ya…it was on FOX….

Going to miss Unforgettable. :And no answers to the shows major mystery…  :(

Terra Nova had a really good season finale. I have a feeling season 2 would have been MUCH better…

A Gifted Man started out interesting, but then became a regular medical show…

Missing started out good and then the writers just lost it…

NYC22!!! It just started! Ugh. Talk about not giving a show a chance…

I have no comments on the rest of the shows. lol.

I lost 6 shows according to that list but only REALLY bummed about “Ringer” and “GCB”….oh well

  • De

Jeez. I’m running out of shows to watch….. After fringe finishes I reckon I might sell my tv and start reading books and expanding my horizons.

  • 0bsessions

I’m losing Alcatraz and Awake. I’m hoping Awake can at least wrap up in a satisfying manner, though.

GCB and the secret circle were highlights of my week!! I loved both of those shows and watched them all the time!! How can you take them away from me!!

  • DrHiphop85

I’m surprised too. Not because I like the show but because CBS loves their CSIs. And its even more crazy because Miami is being cancelled by NYC is still around. Is that one better? I haven’t watched a CSI since Warrick died and Grissom left.

  • I-Van the Crippler

they canceled PAn AM?? that was a surprisingly good show… and i thought it did well ratings wise as well..:(

For me, The Secret Circle was a wonderful show. A somewhat different concept. I’ll definitely miss that. Also it did not have any clear ending as if the writers did not expect the show to be cancelled. Season 2 would have definitely answered a lot many questions. Sigh :(
