Max Landis' New Comic, "Green Valley," Presents a Fantasy-Free Tale of Knights and Redemption
Although Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels has said that no official announcements would be made about possibly departing cast members Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis,Saturday’s season finale sure points toward the exits of at least two, and possibly three, of the stars. The above video shows the final sketch, which morphed into a dance number with Wiig joined by the current cast, host Mick Jagger and musical guest Arcade Fire, and then a larger group that included Jon Hamm, Amy Poehler, Steve Martin, Chris Kattan, Chris Parnell and the Foo Fighters.
While the clip clearly focused on Wiig’s departure after seven years, note how emotional Sudeikis gets while dancing with Wiig and then afterward as he slinks into the background of the lovefest.
And then there’s Samberg. The quirky funnyman looked cool and calm at the end, but it was during the the SNL Digital Short that he seemingly announced his own departure. He re-teamed with Chris Parnell for “Lazy Sunday 2″ and the two traded the following lines. Samberg: “On these New York streets, I hone my fake rap penmanship.” Parnell: “That’s how it began.” Samberg: “And that’s how I’ma finish it.”
So, while nothing has been officially announced about the trio staying or going, the episode sure made a good case for the latter. We’ll see in the coming months how things shake out and, more importantly for the series itself, who will be stepping up to fill their mighty large shoes.
