Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Unleashes Red-Band Trailer

Fox has released an action-packed, and blood-splattered, red-band trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, director Timur Bekmambetov’s mashup of history and horror. As much as I enjoy the bestselling novel on which it’s based — the screenplay by author Seth Grahame-Smith appears to diverge from the source material — to say nothing of mindless monster-killing, I cringe at the quality of the CG backdrops in the trailer. Showtime’s The Tudors had more convincing virtual buildings.

Produced by Tim Burton, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter chronicles the secret life of the ax-wielding 16th president, who we’re told waged a clandestine lifelong war against the bloodsuckers after one of them killed his mother.

The film, which opens June 22, stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson, Robin McLeavy, Alan Tudyk and Rufus Sewell.

Looks fun to me. Also, when hasn’t a screenplay divulged from the source material in some way? That ain’t news. And if the book’s author is doing the screenplay, I’m not worried too much. I know he added the Rufus Sewell character to the movie but then he said himself in an article I read (Total Film? I forget which mag) that he wished he put a main baddie in his book. So this might improve upon the story.
