Gary Oldman Joins RoboCop

 

Trading the mean streets of Gotham for the even meaner streets of Detroit, Gary Oldman will star opposite The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman in the MGM remake of RoboCop, Heat Vision reports.

The Oscar nominee will play Norton, the scientist who designed the RoboCop suit and saved Kinnaman’s police officer Alex Murphy from death. Once RoboCop gets going, however, Norton becomes torn between serving this unique man and serving the corporation bankrolling the project.

While details of the film are still a bit fuzzy, we do know that director Jose Padilha wants to keep the satirical tone of the first film while also opening the story up wider than the original, and that the man inside the suit, Kinnaman, is super stoked about the project. Even the 2013 release date has yet to be nailed down, but we’re guessing more solid news will be coming out as we get closer to filming.
