Casino Royale’s Mads Mikkelsen in Talks to Play Thor 2 Villain

Going up against James Bond can be a difficult task. No matter what you throw at that guy, he tends to come out on top. So, what does it take to make someone go from tussling with Bond to throwing down with Thor? Well, screen time and money, we’d imagine. Actor Mads Mikkelsen, who played Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, as well as roles in The Three Musketeers and Clash of the Titans, is in talks with Marvel to hone his villain chops once again, this time in Thor 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mikkelsen’s unidentified character will team up with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who tormented Thor in the first film and again in this summer’s ridiculously successful Avengers. Aside from some changes in the director’s chair, with Games of Thrones‘ Alan Taylor eventually taking over, and most of the original cast returning, very little is known about the film. As of now, Thor 2 is set to hit theaters Nov. 15, 2013.

While Loki is great, does he need to come back again?

“Team up with Loki”? Again? Eh. Can’t we get THOR and Loki having to team up against someone else? Surtur, perhaps? I know Loki is the evil villain, but he’s been the evil villain two times already. I’d like to see him having to side with the Good Guys for a change.

Loki is like Magneto, if he’s not the main villain he needs to at least be in the movie playing both sides. That’s why both characters are awesome, they’re more complex than your typical villain.

As for Mads, I can’t see him as Surtur so maybe he’ll be Malekith?

Loki doesn’t always have to play the bad guy but he should have some
part in any Thor movie. Unlike a character like Batman, for example, who
can have a great movie without the Joker, part of Thor’s story is the
political intrigue and family issues. However, he doesn’t necessarily need to be onscreen in every movie… a schemer like him probably has a few machinations that can come to fruition when he is imprisoned, presumed dead, etc.

But all great villains need to be rested, otherwise they become lane.  Loki was defeated in Avengers, and are we going to see him defeated again and again in all future Thor movies.

Malekith would be a very nice visual for a film…good choice.
