Dark Knight Rises Debuts Trailer During MTV Movie Awards

During last night’s MTV Movie Awards, Christopher Nolan Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt introduced a new 90-second clip for The Dark Knight Rises containing plenty of new footage, including an extended exchange between Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle and Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer was preceded by a retrospective that traced the history of Batman through Nolan’s three films. Images of Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight triggered an emotional response from Bale, who said, with his voice quivering, “It’s great to remember Heath.”

Opening July 20, the conclusion of Nolan’s movie trilogy stars Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy as Bane, Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.

UPDATE: The video has been removed at the request of Warner Bros.

I don’t like Anne Hathaway at all in this. For me, she is the ONLY weak link that I have seen so far in this film. Every single thing about her in this is wrong. Catwoman is a hard character to fold into the Nolan universe and they seemed to have stumbled greatly. I recently read that Nolan didn’t want Catwoman in the film, but David S. Goyer convinced him.

Scarlett Johanssen was making the Avengers so she wouldn’t have been able to do it. But Charlize Theron would have been perfect. She’s in better shape and tall enough that it would be slightly more believable that she could fight against/alongside Christian Bale and Tom Hardy.

Right now, the reception towards her seems to be greatly mixed. But I don’t know how anyone can like Anne Hathaway in these trailers.

*Leans back and remembers how everybody was complaining about Ledger as a Joker that wears makeup until the last movie came out*

Plus, isn’t Johanssen Black Widow and wasn’t Theron probably filming Snow White at about the same time…?

how can anyone comment on an actresses performance when we havent even seen any movie yet. oh yeah and from what i have heard since nolan took over bats is that Bale sucks, voice sucks, acting sucks…yadda yadda yadda. oh also that ledge looked like he would suck too.

yeah make your comments, freedom of speech and all but freedom of speech doesnt mean prophets if I go by the comments of arm-chair prophets since this franchise came back and has been very very enjoyeable to watch.  i mean even katie holmes was hated on yet she didnt ruin anything for me…not that I was a fan of her performance but….for me to know one way or the other if i like hathaways new catwoman I have to watch her throughout the whole flick.

my 2cents worth that cant buy even spit these days….

    oh and cheers! :)

Hathaway does the sexy/mysterious Catwoman well sometimes, but at other times, her delivery is just off. In the above clip, when she says, “Maybe it’s not you I’m running from,” she’s looking away the entire time. It’s an odd line reading, with none of the confidence I expect from Selina Kyle, and oddly melodramatic. Same with the later line, “You should be as afraid of him as I am.” Oddly melodramatic.

But at other times, like “A girl’s gotta eat,” and “I’m adaptable,” she’s dead on. Here’s to hoping we get a lot more of those kinds of deliveries.

couldn’t agree more.annes delivery of the lines isn’t bad but she lacks the almost intimidating/direct yet sexy mannerisms that catwoman embodies to deliver those lines.  all of those lines that shes delivered in the trailer the real selina kyle would have looked directly at the person she was saying them to. not stare at her hands or look off in to the sky.
