Avengers Assemble to Replace Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

A report has surfaced seemingly confirming months-old rumors that Disney XD’s Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has been canceled, to be replaced by a new animated series called Avengers Assemble. The second season debuted April 1 as part of the cable network’s new Marvel Universe programming block.

According to the Marvel TV News fan site, the news arrived in an official Marvel press release announcing “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.” It was accompanied by the Avengers Assemble promo image at right. However, when contacted by Spinoff Online, Marvel had no comment.

Developed by Marvel Animation in cooperation with Film Roman, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes premiered in October 2010, initially featuring the team’s original comic-book roster — Iron Man, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp — which later expanded to include Captain America, Black Panther, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel.

Avengers Assemble, like the recently launched Marvel comic series of the same name, to reflect the lineup of the blockbuster live-action film — Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye — plus the Falcon. Presumably additional details will be provided next month at Comic-Con International.

I hope not Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is awesome but this rumor isn’t new. I heard about a few weeks ago.

  • Marvelcomics1981

    boooooooooooooooo

  • Mythos

This isn’t the rumor. This is confirmation.

  • Mythos

First Spectacular Spider-Man, now Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. If Ultimate Spider-Man is any indication of the quality of future Marvel animation shows, this will be pretty horrid.

  • Geekbot

This reaffirms everything I hate about current Marvel and now it’s infected the one area I really liked. I loved that Earth’s Mightest could remain fairly faithful to the classic tone and characters. Sure there were nods to the movie-verse but overall it could give me a taste of what I find lacking in Marvel books. I also like people other than the Big 3 & Hulk played important roles, especially my favorite Marvel character Hank Pym. I also like Hawkeye in his classic duds. I get Marvel is trying to create a unified brand but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is great and deserves more seasons.

  • http://twitter.com/keithallen798 Keith Allen

While I’m glad to see the Falcon on a weekly basis, I’ll miss the Panther.

  • Savonti

Yeah, I can see how they’d want to get rid of a well written series with a deep love and respect for the source material. Why would you want to keep your fanbase happy after all.

You know what, just for this, I’m not going to watch the new Spider-Man Movie and I’m absolutely not giving the new show a chance. These people need to learn to stop destroying what works.

(I will say that the current voice over during the shows opening is way cringe worthy though)

  • Lewis4510

A:EMH just seemed to be missing something to me. So I can’t say I’m surprised at this news. Hopefully the new show will take it’s tone from the film and have better voice acting and better animation. This is Disney after all they should have the best quality animation and A:EMH just didn’t.

  • ATK

Too bad, EMH is pretty awesome and it’s been building up much like the first couple of seasons of Justice League. I was hoping by the 3 or 4th season we would have a full roster and dozens of characters. This makes sense though as I noticed they were burning off the last half of the season pretty quickly. I’ll give the new show a shot but Marvel, this show is awesome, no reason we can’t have 2 shows.

  • ATK

If by horrid you mean quick witted, meta and sarcastic then yes I would agree. I really don’t get all the hate over Ult Spidy. No it’s not the comic, yes it’s it own thing but I been entertained and as long as you don’t take it seriously it’s pretty damn funny. It’s not the greatest show ever and if I had to pick, EMH would probably win, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

  • Convoy

If I had to take a guess, this is going to tie directly in with the Ultimate Spider Man universe. That’s not saying it’s going to be as goofy as USM, but it’s going to fit in. I just hope that if that is the case, then going forward they stop canceling good shows and stick to this universe they’re maybe making.

  • GLJeremy

Uggh, hope it doesn’t turn into something like “Ultimate Spider-Man” (a shallow rip-off of Teen Titans style as designed by coroporate comittee). My 3-year old loves spider-man and watches the show but even he will say its not as good as his Spectacular Spider-Man dvds and would rather watch those if given the choice. I love watching EMH with him and he adores the hulk in that show. I worry that this Avengers and Hulk series that are coming will be as unengaging as USM.

  • ZBaksh386

i just vomited in my mouth.

  • Dean_Winchester

Why Why Why????? EMH is f’ing amazing. Do we have any idea why they would do this? Is it getting bad ratings?

  • Ramone

Reading that first sentence is apparently just too hard.

  • Adam

This is so disappointing. I was horrified when “Spectacular Spider-Man” – IMO, the best Spider-Man adaptation to TV or movies I’ve seen – was canceled and replaced “Ultimate Spider-Man”, which just… wasn’t good.

Now that I think about it, Disney has a habit of killing Marvel cartoons with promise: “Wolverine and the X-Men”, which was very strong, was canceled before its prime.

I’ve loved what was done with Avengers: EMH, and I can’t fathom why Disney would be stupid enough to cancel it.

  • Derek

Absurd. I agree with above comments. Spectacular Spider-Man was spectacular and EMH is Marvel’s mightiest cartoon in a long time. Really lame.

  • Ben Gebhart

Pretty horrible news, really. EMH was Marvel’s best attempt yet, and a great one at that, at true World Building ala JLU. With the latest guest appearances by Cage & Iron Fist and the Guardians of The Galaxy being especially awesome I was hoping for at least one more season to get some of these characters a solo episode! BAH!!!

  • Leewan17

    No wasp?

  • http://twitter.com/ValeKementari Valeria Kementari ♫

    this sucks

  • http://twitter.com/Shakalooloo Laurence J Sinclair

So we lose the Wasp yet again. Boo. I knew it was too good to last.

  • A M.G.

It will be great only if Marvel animation does with the new show the same thing that Bruce Timm did for DC with Justice League Unlimited. Otherwise, it will be a big loss.

  • sephy

And yet Marvel wonders why their cartoons are about two decades behind DC’s in terms of quality.

Step 1 – Dont cancel good shows.

  • Pedro Vegajr

    are you kidding me…..

  • Fred

Usual Marvel, why give fans what they want when you can Tell fans what they want whether they like it or not.

  • http://twitter.com/jheintz58 John Heintzelman Jr

Jeph Loeb Fucks us again. Seriously this guy has done more damage to Marvel then any Super villain ever could. The guy is like the uwe boll of comics. Stop letting him have power over things. I say we blackball him like they did to Chuck Austen.

  • Alex Dragon

I’m a big fan of A:EMH and hate to see it go but I’m not surprised by the news. I don’t like ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN but it would make sense that they did an AVENGERS series closer to the tone of US based on the network both shows play on. Based on the commercials of other shows on that network A:EMH is totally out of place and US is a better fit because every other show on that channel seems to be light and totally goofy shows. Every time they play a promo of another show on that channel I wonder what demographic watches that stuff. I can’t see any male over 12 enjoying any of that stuff.

Disney bought marvel because they did a good job at appealing to a male demographic but if they’re going to put shows on that channel and change the tone of the source material to fit that audience it’s a waste of time. They’ll just keep that same audience. If the new AVENGERS animated series is like the US series it’s only going to appeal to that same small audience.

I also heard the plan with the new AVENGERS series is no more story arcs. Every show will be self contained. They believe that people might tune out if they come into the middle of a story. Not only do I think that’s not true but it’s the way most shows are done these days. Most of tv’s most popular series are ongoing story arcs.

It’s very clear Marvel is making these shows for kids. That’s fine, but I wish there was an outlet for an older demographic since they don’t seem to do any original animated DVD stuff anymore. Of course there are the Marvel Anime series on G4 but I haven’t liked any of those very much.

Let me guess how this one will turn out.The Avengers will now narrate the story using the 4th wall like the new Amazing Spiderman cartoon series.just saying.

  • Joe

This is terrible news. Ultimate Spiderman is awful. And AEMH is the best cartoon around. And Wolverine and the X-men was awesome too and they canceled it. And SSM. I don’t know, I know cartoons are geared for kids. But this Avengers cartoon is way too awesome to cancel. Why do they do this stuff?

  • http://twitter.com/BiggzD lulz

    Marvel always likes destroying.

    Mahbel Nwoo! *Gooby crying face*

  • Andres Erazo

And Wolverine and the X-Men too. Sad :(

  • http://twitter.com/DaQuantumFro DaMarico Fowler

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (breathe) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • http://twitter.com/DaQuantumFro DaMarico Fowler

Look you (Marvel) have Ultimate ADDHD Spider-Man let us have a Marvel show that is a blend of Modern and Classic Marvel

  • http://twitter.com/hawkingbyrd Jo

YES! DO IT! I will spam the liveblogs with my hate while you voice our disappointment in person! EMH was a fantastic show!

  • Omniaural

There is no sense in this as far as I can see.

Why is it impossible to just realign the EMH cartoon so that the core cast reflects the movie?

Does this mean we’ll get another retread of stories so quickly after the previous series?

  • Dan Birchall

I’m sorry but this is just beyond stupid. EMH was the greatest animated series Marvel has ever done. Re-booting it after two seasons is just ludicrous.

  • http://www.graphicxtras.com Andrew Buckle

Might be good – might grow to enjoy it as much as the current series. Hope so.

Will definitely miss Ant-Man / Giant Man and in particular, the Wasp though. They really should have been in the film as well. Perhaps if they turn up in Avengers 2, they will appear in any re-re-boot of the series.

  • B Traer

No wonder they’ve been burning off the episodes. Watched 11 new ones this week.
Too bad, because it’s a really enjoyable series

  • Guardian_z_cloud

Yes it would be simple but they wont you see its a vanity project by Jeph Loeb EMH was made by the old heads Yost and Fine so fi this show does well they ge the credit insead of Loeb he want to look good to the people he awnsers to.

  • MegaGearX

I liked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes better than the actual Marvel comics coming out now. Obscure references, OHOTMU villains and locations, guest stars, pop culture easter eggs, continuity and story arcs that makes you want to tune in next week, engaging characters…you could tell that making EMH was a fun experience. I think it was a great show for classic Avengers fans.

Aaaaand Jeph Loeb kills it. His Facebook page was taken down because of all of the angry fans. That should say something about how bad this decision is.

  • Ramone

Here’s hoping they keep several of the voice actors on board. I appreciated that they had someone who sounded like RDJ’s Stark.

  • Esgg76

    Bison!!! I mean Loeb!!!

  • David Schmitt

    *FIXED*

First Wolverine and the X-Men then Spectacular Spider-Man, now Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. If Ultimate Spider-Man is any indication of the quality of future Marvel animation shows, this will be pretty horrid.

  • DrHiphop85

Not the same thing…Spectacular spider-man was cancelled because of the cost of it being on another network, WatX was cancelled because someone else besides Disney controlled it.

  • http://www.mygeekygeekyways.com Starman

     Two Words: Jeph Loeb.

  • urbaneturtle

Why? What could the difference really be? Why not just revamp the current series; it basically already has the movie character lineup present. Think Justice League —> JLU. That’s silly. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes isn’t amazing but it’s entertaining. Maybe this new one will be too.

  • http://twitter.com/joemenjivar the annotated joe

I’m pretty ok with this, if nothing else I’m sure the animation will be of the highest quality now, say what you like about ultimate spider-man (I personally enjoy it) its a good looking show, really nicely animated. I have high hopes.

  • Gmoney2751

they should put both up cause i loved earths mightiest heroes and would like to see more this new one better be good and maybe they can make a 3rd season later down the line

  • Dbztyler

What the heck is wrong with Avengers EMH?

Disney TV is utter trash, this is why they can’t get traction, they don’t know what “good” is.

I hope it’s not like Ultimate Spider Man
