Tonka Truckin’ Toward Theaters
Sony Pictures Animation, Hasbro and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions are teaming to bring the toymaker’s Tonka truck brand to the big screen.
The animated movie, written by Fred Wolf (Black Sheep, Grown Ups), joins a development slate at Sony that includes projects based on Hasbro board games Risk and Candy Land.
“In its 65 years, Tonka has become more than a toy or a brand – Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world,” Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Digital Productions, said in a statement. “Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life.”
Tonka toys have been sold since 1947, with the all-metal Tonka Trucks earning a reputation for being virtually indestructible. The company was purchased in 1991 by Hasbro.
