It’s been only a week since Andy Samberg officially announced his departure from Saturday Night Live, the series that made him famous and he in turn helped breath new life into. Even so, the comedian already has another show in the works, this time a six-episode series for the Britain’s BBC Three called Cuckoo. It’s executive produced by Ash Atalla, who helped bring The Office and The IT Crowd into existence.
Here’s the full description, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:
When Ken (Greg Davies) and Lorna (Helen Baxendale) collect their daughter (Tamla Kari) from the airport, they’re horrified to learn that she’s returned from her gap year with more than just a henna tattoo and braids in her hair,” BBC Three said in a more detailed show description. “At the arrival gate, she promptly introduces them to her new husband, Cuckoo (Andy Samberg) – the squared-jawed, self-appointed spiritual ninja who is now their son-in-law.
While a BBC series might not be where the hottest SNL alumni tend to go, the move makes perfect sense when considering Samberg’s unique comedic sensibilities. Plus, consider that the busy actor may not want to devote the time to a significantly longer American-television season. The series will shoot this summer and air later this year.
