Stephen Colbert and Allison Janney have signed on to DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman, based on “Mr. Peabody’s Improbable History” segments of The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is so pleased with how the adaptation is coming together that it’s moved up the release from March 14, 2014 to Nov. 8, 2013.
Colbert and Janney are joined by Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids, The Office), Ariel Winter (Modern Family) and Stephen Tobolowsky (Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Californication).
The classic cartoon followed the genius talking dog Mr. Peabody and his bright but naive “boy” Sherman as they traveled back through time in the WABAC (pronounced “wayback”) machine to witness historical events and ensure they unfold properly. Ty Burrell (Modern Family) and Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man) lend their voices to Peabody and Sherman.
Colbert will play Mr. Peabody’s nemesis Paul Peterson, will Janney will portray his wife Paul Peterson. Winter will provide the voice of their daughter Penny Peterson, described as a “lovable bully who gives Sherman grief.”
Rob Minkoff (The Lion King, Stuart Little) is directing from a script by Carl Wright and Michael McCullers.
