Dark Knight Returns Sneak Peek Offers Glimpse Behind the Scenes

A new sneak-peek featurette has appeared online for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Warner Bros.’ upcoming animated adaptation of the influential 1986 miniseries by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson.

Debuting this fall under the DC Comics Premiere Movie banner, the two-part direct-to-DVD release is set a decade after an aging Bruce Wayne quit crimefighting in the wake of Jason Todd’s death, The Dark Knight Returns brings Batman out of retirement to save Gotham from sinking deeper into decay and lawlessness. With the help of a new, female Robin, Carrie Kelly, the Dark Knight ends the threat of the mutant gangs that have overrun the city and confronts two of his greatest enemies. But then he must face his former ally Superman in a battle that only one will survive.

Directed by Jay Oliva and executive produced by Bruce Timm, The Dark Knight Returns stars Peter Weller as Batman, Ariel Winter as Robin, David Selby as Jim Gordon, Wade Williams as Harvey Dent and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper. Part 1 debuts this fall, with Part 2 arriving in early 2013.

Not sure about Peter Weller’s Batman voice; I liked him better as Robocop, it might grow on me.   The voices of Commissioner Gordon and Carrie Kelley are spot-on, and Michael McKean does a pretty good Dr. Bart Wolper.  I am looking forward to this though, it captures one of the finest superhero stories ever told and shows that Frank Miller once had talent before he became a hate-crazed, far-right lunatic.

Think about it though. Peter Weller as a aged and disgruntled batman i think they hit the nail on the head with this one.
