New Hotel Transylvania Trailer Arrives (No Humans Allowed)

Sony Pictures Animation has released a full-length theatrical trailer for director Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania, which stars Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula, a hotelier whose plans for his daughter’s 118th birthday party are thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a human.

The movie, which opens Sept. 28, also features the voices of Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Molly Shannon and Cee Lo Green.

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s (Adam Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

It’s Tartakovsky, so it’s at least worth a look. This is the first trailer for an animated film this year that’s got me paying attention though.

Looks like a classic 80s romp I’d normally love. However, I fear the comedy is too reliant on that over-the-top Hollywood style physical comedy, rather then lets say Pixar’s or Tatakovsky clever gags in ironic situations. Plus, a part of me does not enjoy a movie wherein the main characters are the main bad guys that need to learn a lesson. It’s a turn off because if you identify with the character then the whole movie is about the lesson you need to learn to avoid making those same mistakes. It becomes preachy.
