2 Guns Recruits Fred Ward

Veteran actor Fred Ward will star opposite Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington in 2 Guns, the Universal Pictures adaptation of the crime comic by Steven Grant and Mataes Santolouco, Variety reports.

Published in 2007 by BOOM! Studios, 2 Guns follows a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who, unwittingly investigating each other, team up to steal money from the mob. Unfortunately they learn too late that the $50 million actually belongs to the CIA. Olmos would play Papi Greco, a dangerous Mexican drug lord. Ward will play a U.S. Navy admiral.

Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) is set to direct from a script by Blake Masters. Marc Platt is producing with BOOM! co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. The cast also includes Bill Paxton, Edward James Olmos and Paula Patton.

Since his feature debut in Escape From Alcatraz in 1979, Ward has appeared in a wide range of films, from Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins and Tremors to The Crow: Salvation and 30 Minutes or Less.
