Will Thor: The Dark World Be Plagued By Dark Elves?

Will Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World feature elves? That’s the big question after stuntman John Grogan told I Review Too…:

“The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he explains, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self-aware and get on with it.”

The elves Grogan refers to are widely assumed to be the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, who count Malekith the Accursed (below) among their number. Malekith possessed an artifact called the Casket of Ancient Winters, which unleashes unspeakable cold on its victims and gradual youth to its wielder.

The current thought is that actor Mads Mikkelsen was set to play the villain before dropping out of the film to shoot his TV series Hannibal. Could Svartalfheim be the “Dark World” the title refers to?

Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Zachary Levi. It opens Nov. 15, 2013.

Only tenuously related to the article, but how does someone manage to not know what an elf is?  Even if you managed to dodge the entire fantasy genre including the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, surely you’d know of elves from childrens stories or from the Santa’s elves context?

Damn. I was hoping “Dark World” referred to Ego the living planet. Figuring a tie-in with the whole space, Guardians of The Galaxy, Thanos thing.

I remember a comment being made a while back that T2 would feature one of the items from the weapons vault so maybe this ties in with that rumour.
