Jackie Earle Haley Joins RoboCop

As September inches closer, expect director Jose Padilha and MGM to announce the remaining roles for the upcoming remake of Paul Verohoeven’s 1987 action film RoboCop. The movie already stars Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie and Abbie Cornish, but now Deadline reports another very familiar name is joining the cast: Jackie Earle Haley.

Haley, best known for playing Rorschach in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation and Freddy Krueger in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, has signed on to play Maddox, Robo’s trainer in all matters military. This is a part that was not in the original film, but goes along with what Padilha has said about focusing more on Robo’s development. RoboCop arrives Aug. 9, 2013.
