Arrested Development Begins Production on New Season

A week after star Jason Bateman revealed the first photos from the set, Deadline reports production will begin today on Netflix’s eagerly anticipated revival of Arrested Development.

The 10-episode series is designed to serve as a bridge between Mitch Hurwitz’s beloved comedy, which was canceled in 2006 by Fox, and the long-discussed feature film.

The original plan was for each member of the Bluthe family — played by Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, David Cross, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor and Alia Shawkat — to star in his or her own spotlight episode, to catch viewers up on the characters. Although the format may remain the same, the word now is that the actors, who are finalizing their contracts, could appear in each other’s episodes.

The new episodes will be released simultaneously sometime next year.
